The Real Roadtrip!
It has been a while since I've updated my blog, but I'm about to change all of that! In one week, I will be taking a road trip across the country from Boston, MA to relocate to Los Angeles, CA.
I'm excited for the adventure ahead, to finally give my real camera something to look at, and to spend quality time with one of my favorite people along the way, my sister!
Stay tuned, the best is yet to come!
Brands go Behind the Seams
This video beautifully depicts the process in which a Burberry scarf is made. The focus on the natural materials and colors, while showing the hand crafted element behind each scarf, brings the product great authenticity. (I love the song too!) From a customer standpoint, knowing it was thoughtfully produced and designed is a great addition to the product value.
Some other companies that I feel do an excellent job in providing the "behind the scenes" production, and product authenticity are Everlane, and Eileen Fisher. Everlane gives radical transparency into what each of their products cost to make and bring to the retail setting (this can be found on each product detail page). They also shed light on each of their factories and tell a beautiful factory story including imagery. It is a huge step in the retail industry, showing the customer that you are in the business to create great, responsibly produced items, you gain their trust in your brand value. https://www.everlane.com/factories
Eileen Fisher, is another great company that gives customers insight to the production and materials behind their brand. Beautiful imagery and detailed content proves that they invest in the quality of their product, allowing the customer to feel confident in investing in the brand as well. http://www.eileenfisher.com/behind-the-label-overview/
Happy Friday!
Design is One: Lella & Massimo Vignelli
I highly recommend the design documentary, Design Is One: Lella & Massimo Vignelli. This Italian husband & wife couple have made incredible design achievements in America. From the NY subway to fashion retailer Bloomingdales, they mastered seemingly simple organization of information and design. Their work and thought process is an inspiration. I love their motto, "if you can't find it, design it". Reminding us all to stay inspired to create and make the design world a better place.
Massimo also said "3 things that I believe in in this life: vision, courage and determination". Such great insight into the mind and motivation of a brilliant designer, and great words to live by for anyone aspiring to be such.
You can watch it streaming on Netflix now, or here is the link to the film's site: http://designisonefilm.com/
